In addition to having amazing theme parks, Orlando is a fantastic place to be if you want to play or watch sports! There are several professional sports teams, venues and complexes in the area with events happening year-round. Florida’s climate is ideal for outdoor sports and activities such as running, golf, fishing, and more! Sports fans of every age and ability will have an incredible time in Orlando.
ORLANDO NATIONAL BASKETBALL ASSOCIATION
Orlando has been the home of the NBA’s Orlando Magic since its establishment in 1989. The team have had a very impressive and successful run in their short history, making the playoff in 50% of their seasons played and twice advancing to the NBA Finals. You can catch a Magic game while you’re in town, at the Amway Center. There are at least 44 home games each season.
ORLANDO MAJOR LEAGUE SOCCER
Major League Soccer fans visiting Orlando have the chance to see Orlando City Soccer Club matches. The team has become a leader in the field of MLS in the past few years. You can watch a game at the new Exploria Stadium located in downtown.
ORLANDO COLLEGE FOOTBALL
Orlando is a great place for college football. Several bowl games are played here each year, including the Citrus Bowl in January, the Florida Blue Florida Classic in November and the Cheez-It Bowl in December. These games are played in the newly upgraded Camping World Stadium in downtown. This venue also now hosts the NFL’s Pro Bowl, just a short drive away from Walt Disney World, where the winners of the Super Bowl travel to each year to celebrate.
USTA NATIONAL CAMPUS
You can visit the United States Tennis Association’s National Campus facilities in Lake Nona near the Orlando International Airport. Here you have the opportunity to play or watch tennis on pristine public courts in one of the largest centers in the world.
GOLF
There are over 100 of the world’s best courses in Orlando, many pros even live in the area. some have even been designed by golf legends like Jack Nicklaus, Arnold Palmer and Tom Watson. Watch PGA Tour events hosted throughout the year. You can play a round.. or several during your stay, book your tee times now!
RUNNING
Runners will have plenty of opportunities to utilize Orlando’s many paths, trails, and roadways during their visit. With year-round warm weather, there’s never a bad day for a run! If you forget your running shoes, no problem! Orlando has plenty of outlets and top of the line sports retails where you can grab a new pair.
FISHING
There are hundreds of miles of great rivers, lakes and springs that are perfect fishing sports. If you are a interested in fishing while you are here there many guided tours available. Orlando is also perfectly situated between Florida’s Atlantic Coast and the Gulf of Mexico, both only an hour drive in either direction. Orlando also hosts a Big Bass Tour tournament event each year.
TAMPA BAY SPORTS
Orlando has the great benefit of being just a short drive away from another major sports hub! You can be in the Tampa Bay area in just over an hour’s drive at experience even more sporting events. Watch the NFL’s Tampa Bay Buccaneers lead by 6-time Super Bowl Champion, Tom Brady, play 10 home games a season at Raymond James Stadium. You can also watch Major League Baseball featuring the Tampa Bay Rays at Tropicana Field. Additionally, the area hosts the Tampa Bay Lighting who play in the National Hockey League.
NASCAR
NASCAR hosts one of its most iconic events each year, the Daytona 500, at the Daytona International Speedway. This race has been run for over six decades and you can get in on the excitement for the 63rd running of the race on February 14, 2021 when you visit nearby Orlando.
